I have a 5 year old cat that was taken to the vet for an abscess on his rear paw from a fight with another cat.

The cleaned out the abscess, and prescribed amoxycillin, and metacam for the pain and swelling.

The dosage that we were given was 9 drops by mouth once daily for 4 days.

I gave this to my cat, and a few days later he was not eating, not drinking, barely walking. Creatinin level through the roof, CBC indicated that with his levels he should be dead or close to heart failure.

Over a week on IV fluids, and the level are down, and he appears to be ok.

It appears in my situation Metacam was prescribed for the wrong reason, and for way to high a dose. Unfortunately I didn't do my research before I gave it to him.
